Last fall, the baking bug really bit her and she asked for a cake decorating set for Christmas. We obliged. Hmmmm… Little did we know she would take off with this…while we put on…the pounds. So my husband suggested to her that she channel this endeavor toward good. She and I came up with Cakes 4 Causes. She selected four causes that are important to her and she now takes orders for cakes and cupcakes or sells her goodies at local events to raise money for the selected charities.
She loves doing this and enlists the help of various friends to help her out from time to time. Though she has quite a few candles to put on her own birthday cake before she reaches adulthood, she is considering pastry chef as a future profession. She’s learning some pretty good life lessons so far. She’s organized, efficient, professional, and creative. She designs and bakes the cupcakes with (thankfully) no input from me. And she’s learning about the financial side of things, too. Her efforts for The Wounded Warrior Project raised over $400. Right now, she’s been putting money aside for High Hopes, a local autism program.
Above is a photo of one of her creations. The last Tuesday of every month, I’ll post a photo of her latest efforts for Cakes for Causes on H.O.T. Cakes. To learn more, please visit (and “like”) the Facebook page for Cakes for Causes. It really makes her day to see another fan.
