I finally got a chance to meet the owners, and discovered a house full of treasures, both from travels and from their hearts. The cottage or officially, “Armadillo Cottage” as they had named it, belonged to a husband and wife, Al and Helen, who were both artists, and interior designers.
I didn’t meet them until they were into their eighties. Our similar interests provided for an immediate connection between us. I have a print of one of Helen’s watercolors hanging in my kitchen.
I felt shameful of this cache of goodies that Helen had so generously bestowed upon me, so we worked out a trade. She already owns one of my mosaic pendants, but she said she would like another one in her favorite color (also mine) of aqua. So I made her this cross:
I love the connections that creativity allows us to make. That little cottage has called out to me since the first time I saw it. I admired the chutzpah it took to paint it with personality. I liked the sense of humor it had with its metal armadillo sculpture poised at the entryway. And once inside, I was touched by the love that seemed to emit from each and every nook, cranny, and wall adorned with the creations of its owners.
What connections might you make simply by taking notice of creativity? Test it out and have a Fabulous Friday!
